From Student Winner to Creative Director: The Rise of Vanessa Galeano at the Florida Graphics Alliance

Meet Vanessa Galeano, a rising star within the Florida Graphics Alliance (FGA), whose journey from a student at Valencia College to Creative Director is nothing short of inspiring.

Vanessa first made her mark at the 2022 Florida Print Awards, an annual event that recognizes the top talent in print and graphic communications across Florida. The competition, which spans 129 categories for professionals and 24 for students, is judged by industry experts and awards the Best of Category, Award of Excellence, and Judges Award in each category.

The 2022 event, themed "Printing in Paradise," was held at the Margaritaville Orlando Resort on August 26, where Vanessa entered five pieces in various student categories. Her work earned her three Awards of Excellence, one Honorable Mention, and the prestigious Best of Category award. Most impressively, Vanessa won the Best of Show Trophy in the Student Division, a testament to her exceptional skills in publication design, branding, advertising campaigns, packaging, and layout.

Vanessa’s talent did not go unnoticed. The President of the Florida Graphics Alliance, recognizing her potential, reached out to her with a unique opportunity. At the time, Vanessa was completing her final semester in Graphics & Interactive Design at Valencia College. Shortly after graduating, she joined the FGA team, where her creative expertise quickly made an impact.

Gabriel Hernandez, President of FGA said, “In my over 25 years of leading Graphic Arts professionals it is rare to find someone which such talent at such a young age. Vanessa possesses the skills and attitude of a Senior Design Specialist that could easily lead a team or run an agency serving Fortune 500 companies.”

Today, as the Creative Director at FGA, Vanessa is responsible for all of the organization's creative outputs, including print materials, digital content, the website, and social media. Her role allows her to blend her passion for design with her commitment to advancing the mission of the Florida Graphics Alliance. This year’s theme, “Print ‘n’ Roll,” inspired by the 1950s era, was a resounding success, garnering widespread praise from industry leaders for its innovative approach and execution.

Reflecting on her journey, Vanessa shared, "I never imagined that participating in the Florida Print Awards as a student would open the door to such an incredible opportunity. I'm truly grateful and proud to be part of the Florida Graphics Alliance, where I can continue to grow and contribute to the industry I love."
